About Town – TUESDAY, 3/17/26

Election Year is upon us and potential candidates for city council are beginning to stir. This year there are three seats up for grabs, with two of three incumbents signaling their intentions to run again. Lisa Craig-Hensley, District 2, and Cameron Bregman, District 3, have indicated their intentions to seek re-election. However, Alan Nakanishi has decided to give up his District 1 seat after serving five terms (20 years). Brandon Sywassink, ranch manager for Manna Ranch, and Dawson Hayre, a compliance and safety supervisor, join local developer Mike Carouba in the D-1 contest. Christopher Anderson has signaled his intent to challenge former mayor Cameron Bregman for the D-3 seat. He bills himself as a “community leader, educator, and experienced organizational executive.” Lisa Craig-Hensley is running unopposed so far. If re-elected, it will be the second term for both Craig-Hensley and Bregman. Official filing date opens in July when candidates can pull nomination papers and collect signatures that will put them on the ballot. If an incumbent (like Nakanishi) doesn’t file for re-election, the filing period is extended about a week.
