It all started with a New Year’s Eve to remember. Torrents of rain and damaging winds pummeled Lodi in the first of several “atmospheric rivers” to assault Northern California in early 2023. That’s how the year began. The rest of the year was filled with other storms, surprises, sorrows, and situations. Here are some selected highlights:
OFFICIALLY: Lodi City Manager Steve Schwabauer resigned, taking a job as manager for North San Joaquin Water District. … Andrew Keys was appointed Interim city manager. … Lodi City Attorney Janice Magdich left for a position with the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission. … Katie Lucchesi was named Lodi’s new city attorney. … Lodi Police Chief Sierra Brucia retired after 30 years, taking a new position as director of county OES. … Cpt. Ricardo Garcia was appointed Lodi Police Chief, starting Jan. 1, 2024. … Councilman Shakir Khan was arrested for voter fraud, and while in county jail he signed a letter resigning his city council seat. He later disputes his resignation.
