Disturbing Video
Attack caught on video
About Town – FRIDAY, 5/8/26
A disturbing video has surfaced on the Internet purportedly showing the recent fatal attack by an elephant in Africa on local farmer Ernie Dosio. The clip shows people running in fear and an elephant pummeling a body, but in the age of AI, who knows if it’s authentic. What is real are all the comments by animal rights people who have vehemently taken exception to Dosio’s love of big game hunting. Most online comments expressed disapproval of shooting game for fun while offering their sympathy for the family. Others called out “all the hate” by some people. Many of Dosio’s friends came to his defense saying he was actually a conservationist and only hunted game within the law. Dosio, 75, was trampled to death by a herd of elephants in Central Africa on April 17. He was owner of Pacific AgriLands in Modesto providing custom harvesting and farm management services. Understandably, the family has been too distraught to speak to the press.
NEW BEGINNINGS: In a 5-0 vote the city council hired Kara Reddig as the city’s next city manager. She comes to Lodi from Elk Grove, where she has been serving as the assistant city manager. Her starting salary will be $280,000, plus benefits. Councilman Mikey Hothi says, “I’m very excited to work with Kara. I’ve known her for over a decade and feel confident that she will lead us through this next chapter.” Councilwoman Lisa Craig-Hensley says, “During her service to Elk Grove, Ms. Reddig developed ties with key state and federal leaders resulting in millions in state and federal funding for public improvements, transit, public safety, and workforce development. Getting out of City Hall and talking with residents and business owners is a high priority in her first six months.” She added that Ms. Reddig did her homework and came prepared for the interview. “I was swayed by her familiarity with the city’s Strategic Vision and commitment to execute on the city council strategic priorities of economic growth, jobs, downtown revitalization, and fiscal sustainability,” adds Craig-Hensley. Mayor Ramon Yepez commented, “Kara brings the steady, thoughtful leadership Lodi needs as our city continues to evolve. What stood out to me was her calm and collected approach, her professionalism, and her commitment to making city government more responsive and efficient.” The council approved Reddig’s employment contract at its meeting Wednesday night.
